House rules
Frisket Letters is for the things we never said. These rules keep it safe for the people who write, and for the people the letters are for.
What every letter needs
- Be kind, even when it hurts. Grief, regret and longing are welcome. Cruelty is not.
- No names. Not theirs, not yours, not anyone’s, in the letter or in who it’s to. Describe people instead: “Mum”, “my first love”, “stranger with the umbrella”.
- Nothing that leads to someone’s door: no workplaces, schools, street names, photos, links, email addresses, social handles or phone numbers.
- No explicit content, threats, or letters written to shame someone.
- Keep children safe. Letters to children are fine, but never with anything that could identify them.
- Use your own words. Don’t copy song lyrics, poems or anyone else’s writing.
How letters are checked
A person reads every letter before it appears. Letters that break these rules are deleted, not edited: we never change your words. If yours doesn’t appear, it may have broken a rule, or it may simply still be waiting.
Reporting a letter
Every letter has a Report this letter link. If a letter is about you and you want it gone, choose “It’s about me”, and it comes down straight away while we look. A letter that could identify someone comes down straight away too. For anything else, a letter comes down once several people have reported it.
If writing brings up something heavy
You don’t have to carry it alone. In Australia, Lifeline is there 24 hours a day on 13 11 14.
